Speedy Dental Crowns

Same Day Dental Crown

A dental crown is used to entirely cover a damaged tooth. The crown serves to strengthen the tooth as well as improve a tooth's appearance, shape or alignment. Crowns are commonly used for replacing a large filling, protecting a weak tooth, covering a dental implant, covering a discolored or irregular shaped tooth. In most cases, a dental crown can placed the same day.

CEREC Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

The two most common types of crowns are CEREC crowns and traditional crowns. Due to the advanced technology features, we prefer to use CEREC crowns for our patients. They offer long-term strength and stability, as well as a natural look and feel.

CEREC Crowns

CEREC crowns stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. One of the many benefits of a CEREC crown is the speed at which it can be made and put into place.

The advanced technology used with CEREC crowns enables us to provide our patients with a precise fit and color match. When a CEREC crown is used, it looks and feels like natural teeth. Additionally and because a CEREC crown is made from a solid block of material, it is stronger and more durable than traditional crowns.

Traditional Crowns

There are several types of materials used to make traditional crowns, including metal, porcelain fused to metal, ceramic,  and resin.

While metal is one of the strongest options, it does not look like a natural tooth, making it an unpopular choice for most people.

Porcelain fused to metal can provide a more natural look, but porcelain is susceptible to chipping and breaking. It's also very common for the metal to show through at the bottom of the tooth near the gum line.

Many people prefer the look of an all ceramic crown because it can be closely matched to existing tooth color giving it a natural appearance.

Resin crowns are usually the most economical, but the material is prone to fracturing, making it less cost-effective in the long run.
